Halloween!

To get through our special Halloween activities, we need to start the period as the bell goes off.

Write a scary story--1 page single-spaced (10 points)
1. Write your name at the top of your story
2. Write your story for 3 minutes. Try to create a good setting. Use lots of descriptive words (adjectives), especially words that relate to the five senses--what you see, hear, smell, etc. 
3. Now pass your paper to the next person in your group. Continue that person's story for 4 minutes.
4. Pass to the third person in the group.

Explain how Odysseus follows the pattern of the hero's journey. (Or, you may do this 2 page paper on a movie that follows the pattern.)
Here's what's due on Monday:
1 page rough draft of movie that follows the hero's journey pattern
1 page rough draft showing that Odysseus follows the hero's journey pattern
2 page EXPANDED AND REVISED final draft of one of the two essays. (10 points for each rough draft, 20 pts. for typed essay = 40 pts. total)

DIVIDE INTO GROUPS AND JOT DOWN 4 WAYS THAT ODYSSEUS FOLLOWS THE PATTERN OF THE QUESTING HERO.
ONE SHEET OF PAPER WITH ALL OF YOUR NAMES.
(If you weren't here to read the book, you'll want to check out one of the green anthologies. Or maybe you could just watch the movie at home. Here it is: Odyssey movie)

Hero Quest
Short essays:
1. Choose a movie that follows the hero quest pattern.
Then write 1 page showing how it follows this pattern. To do this, you will need to think of one example from the movie that follows the pattern of the hero quest. You will then explain what is similar between this example and the hero quest (check your notes).
Then do the same thing for two other examples from the movie.
2. Write 1 page showing that Odysseus follows the pattern of the questing hero. This essay will be done the same way at the movie essay discussed above.
Bring both of these essays to class on Monday.

You will choose ONE OF THE TWO to share with your response group.
IN YOUR GROUPS YOU WILL DISCUSS HOW TO EXPAND YOUR ESSAY.
In this group you will discuss how to improve and expand your essay.
THEN YOU WILL TYPE THE ESSAY--2 PAGES, TYPED, DOUBLE-SPACED.
